Hi, my name is Susan N. Smith. I am an education major at the University of South Alabama. I am from Excel, Alabama which is an extremely small farming town. I plan to teach math to students in way that will make them love it rather than hate it.

No "Burpback" Education

In education much focus is given to the retaining of information for testing purposes alone. The students retain the information for the test just to burp it back at test time just to forget it later. This to me does not represent real education. The students do not actually learn the material, they just retain it for a test then lose it. This is bad because in the long run the students are only getting by instead of learning.
Students need to retain knowledge so that they can have information in their brains. They could find anything they want on the internet in a matter of seconds, but one believes that students should be able to do that with their brains. Students need to understand that what they put in their brains, no one can take it away.
